Robert M. Madayag, MD, FACS

Dr. Madayag is the Trauma Medical Director at St. Anthony Hospital, the Level 1 trauma center in Lakewood, CO, just west of Denver. He is board certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care and has been a partner with Surgical Specialists of Colorado since its inception. He specializes in Acute Care Surgery which encompasses the disciplines of trauma, surgical critical care and emergency general surgery and has been continually on staff at St. Anthony Hospital and Lutheran Medical Center since 2001.

Dr. Madayag was born in Queens, New York and grew up partly in New York and before moving to the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. He attended the University of Illinois from 1982-86 and graduated with a degree in Biology and Psychology. He moved back to New York and attended Mt. Sinai School of Medicine from 1990-1994. He moved to Maryland and trained at University of Maryland Medical System and Maryland Shock Trauma Center for residency and fellowship from 1994-2001.

Dr. Madayag’s focus and interest is on quality and patient satisfaction. He currently sits on numerous committees surrounding patient quality & safety, and patient satisfaction. He is the co-Perioperative Medical Director, sits on the Hospital wide Peer Review, Credentials Committee, Infection Prevention Committee, Critical Care Practice council and is the physician champion for DVT prevention Hand Hygiene task force. He is the Trauma and Emergency General Surgery representatives on GI hemorrhage practice guidelines and Clostridium difficile task force. Other interests of Dr. Madayag’s include hospital and community preparedness for disasters and multiple casualty events including active shooter incident, multiply injured from traffic accidents or other natural disasters. He is the surgeon champion for the Stop the Bleed program at St. Anthony hospital and has taught multiple courses to the surrounding community.

Dr. Madayag also has interest in research and education. He is involved in multiple research projects including non-operative management of splenic trauma, blunt carotid and vertebral artery injury, traumatic brain injury, use of synthetic marijuana derivatives for reducing opioid use in acute pain, management of hemothorax and a prospective study on inflammatory fluid in acute appendicitis and small bowel obstructions. He is the course director for Advanced Trauma Life Support and is the assistant residency director for the Kansas City University Medical and Biosciences general surgery residency here at St. Anthony hospital.

Dr. Madayag moved to Colorado and began his career in 2001. He started a family and currently has 3 children, Michael, Andrew and Nina. He enjoys outside activities including mountain biking, skiing and has interest in personal fitness including cross fit and survival races.
