Biography
CV
Dr. Edward Pulido is a board certified general surgeon working in Wheat Ridge and Lakewood since graduating from the University of Colorado General Surgery Residency Program in 2001. He loves the breadth and challenge of general surgery, from treating gallbladder disease to operating on complex bowel obstructions emergently to removing a bothersome benign soft tissue mass.
Dr. Pulido was born and raised in Charleston, West Virginia. He comes from "a short line of doctors," as he likes to say. His father was a plastic surgeon and his mother worked as a pediatrician for the state health department. "My dad showed me the value of hard work while my mom taught me compassion and made me promise never to throw instruments." Dr. Pulido graduated from Amherst College with a dual major in Biology (magna cum laude) and History in 1990. He graduated with honors from Georgetown University Medical School in 1994. He completed two years of research during his residency in addition to the five clinical years.
He currently serves as the Perioperative Services Medical Director and leader of the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program at Lutheran Medical Center. He led the trauma service there as its director from 2010 until 2019 and was a past chairman of the Department of Surgery. He has been the president of Surgical Specialist of Colorado since its founding in 2010.
Dr. Pulido believes a surgeon's skill at communicating with patients and family members is just as crucial as the skill of the surgeon's hands. He thinks the importance of knowing when not to operate is more important than knowing when to operate. He strives to practice evidence-based medicine and brings two decades of experience to help solve surgical problems. His father taught him the old adage of a successful surgeon: availability, affability, and ability.
Outside of surgery, Dr. Pulido loves spending time with his better half and their three children. You can often find the family doing what he calls the three T's: travel, tennis, and trivia.
Dr. Pulido sees patients at the Wheat Ridge office of Surgical Specialists of Colorado.
